"Berang" (berang)

What’s the smartest way to do this? I’ve heard that it’s “impossible” but also that it is possible. For whatever reason, the rest of the world gets tires in sizes Americans just aren’t allowed to have.
I know the conventional reply is that those tires aren’t sold here because they’re not DOT compliant. But I’ve found some tires that would work great on my Baja Saab project - and which are DOT compliant, and the larger sizes of which ARE already available in the U.S. - but the skinny size I need only seems available literally EVERY PLACE ON THE PLANET EXCEPT THE UNITED STATES. Which is super F’n frustrating. I can find them in Europe, Asia, Russia, and Australia. The Americas? Nope.
So how do I get them from literally any other point on the globe, to where I am, without spending a fortune? I already tried contacting the U.S. distributor and haven’t heard anything back.

Skinnies are not in favor with the us market. It’s frustrating. There used to be 2 or 3 tires in 255/80r16 now there is one and it just got superceded so who knows about that one even.

I’ve been trying to find a dealer that has them in stock. Nankang FT-7 175/80R15 - unfortunately while a couple sites list them, nobody actually has them it seems.

See if you can get a JDM vehicle importer or similar to source some for you and get them packed in with their next consignment.

Yeah, I could only find one 195/80R15, and after I ordered them, was informed they were on back order, and got a refund. Super frustrating. I think BF Goodrich still has a MT tire in either 205 or 215 width, but while they say it’s still current, nobody ever seems to have them in stock (and even that is a little bit too wide for my purposes unless I want to have new wheels made).

You can still get Bfg ko in small sizes I think.

If you live near a border, call a shop and ask them if they have them, cross it and get them installed in the United Socialist States of Canada

I’d be cautious, the north region is a bit unsafe, if it’s Tijuana or Mexicali then he’s all good.
The language barrier is also an issue

Some UTVs can be made street legal in places and require DOT tires if I’m not mistaken. Maybe check with a dealer and see if they have your size.

I’m not sure what kind of tyre you’re looking for, but General does have their AT 2 All Terrains in a size as small as 205/75/15.

Yeah I had to check again, they do the KO2 and KM2 in 215/75R15 sizes. But unfortunately that’s too wide for the either set of wheels I have. Also worried about whether the 50 year old CVs could handle the weight of those tires.

195/75r14 is a size you should still be able to get. Probably too small.

I would think someone makes these specifically for classic cars. Maybe not in stock but I’d be surprised if they weren’t available to order. If still no, why not change to a slightly wider wheel?

If all else fails, Id be willing to see if its legal/possible to ship them from The Netherlands to you.
I checked a website where I order my tires, these are the results:
They’re delivered to my doorstep from Germany, I’d just have to see if its possible to ship them to the US and how much that would cost. I tried to find info on it online, but Id have to dig a bit deeper.

Because I am looking for all terrain, or mud tires.
And I know for a fact that Nankang tires are DOT approved.

Yeah, I was looking at a few site in Europe. There is a French seller on ebay who will deliver to the U.S. but the freight charges are pretty terrifying.

Unique bolt pattern. I was thinking of having some spun aluminum wheels custom ordered, but the price is way too much for me.

I’ve looked at those, but they’re not all-terrain tires. It might be a last resort.

Well, what models are you looking at? :p
The British site mytyres.co.uk (or any Delti site) will offer worldwide shipping if you by at least 10 tires at a time

Nankang FT-7 175/80R15. I’m looking at these mainly because I know they’re DOT approved and shouldn’t require any import shenanigans if I can find somebody who’ll ship them.
Was looking at Federal Couragia 195/80R15 (which are at the limit of what can fit the wheels/car) and are sold in the U.S. but are currently on backorder everywhere.

This shouldn’t really surprise me because Saab. Possible to swap out the hubs? (I realize this is getting on the path to “is it really the same car?” But Honda guys swap 4-bolt for 5-bolt hubs pretty often.) Rather than doing wheels you might also be able to have a set of lug adapters machines for less.

Perhaps Delti might be able to help you
Send an email to international.delivery@delti.com or mytyres@delti.com for a quote and mention the Nankang FT7 185/60R15

Might be worth ringing Tireco (the US distributor for Nankang) directly rather than waiting for them to respond to an email. If you ask nicely they may get what you need in their next shipment.

Ah
Have you asked a local tire store? When I was looking for 914 tires, the only option that kept coming up were perellis or michelins, but a local shop was able to find verdsteins for a reasonable price.
